Roger’s workshops will cover playing some English tunes, accompanying (and singing, for those who want to) English songs, learning simple harmony techniques and working together with other players.
These sessions are probably not suitable for complete beginners, but open to C/F, G/C and G/C/F instruments. Music notation will not be used, but both easy and more challenging parts will be taught, together with opportunities for improvisation.
Roger lives in Bracknell, Berkshire and has national and international experience as a folk musician, singer, songwriter and dance caller. He was also responsible for melodeon and concertina tutors first published in 1980 and still selling (although the cover photographs are now embarrassing!) and he was a tutor at Trekeresuut from 1998 – 2002.
Once a secondary school teacher, he left in 1989 to become the founder and Artistic Director of Traditional Arts Projects (TAPS), which he led until 2008. He now works freelance to teach and perform English traditional songs, music and dances. He plays 2- and 3-row melodeons built by Karel van de Leeuw.
