On this workshop, we are going to work on the Catalan two-row repertoire (which is to be considered as culturally independent from Spain).
In Catalonia, diatonic accordion is used to play most traditional genres (also mazurkas, waltzes, gigs...). But here, we are going to see some of the most specific ones of the country: rumba, havanera, jota, pericon... as well as a few playing techniques (accompaniment chords, ornamentations, etc.).
Pere Romaní is a young Catalan accordionist, arranger and composer. He has a degree on Ethnomusicology, and followed studies of Catalan traditional music on diatonic accordion.
He is now a professional accordionist and teaches the instrument in a Catalan traditional music school in Barcelona.
Besides, he plays and arranges music with different groups, mainly in the accordion duo 21 BOuTONS (with the Belgian Marinette Bonnert), playing all along Europe for 4 years and publishing already 2 cds.
